Report shares how Real Madrid feel about signing Rodri amid potential new Man City deal rumours

Manchester City have been dealt some big injury blows this season.

Arguably the biggest has seen Rodri pick up a season-ending knee injury during City’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Back in August, it was reported that City are aiming to tie Rodri down to a new lucrative deal to keep him at the Etihad Stadium and dismiss Real Madrid’s transfer interest in him.

As things stand, the 28-year-old’s current deal is set to expire in the summer of 2027.

Now though, with the midfielder set for a significant spell on the sidelines, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding the Spanish club’s current stance on potentially landing a deal for the City star during the next summer transfer window.

How Real Madrid feel about 2025 transfer move for Rodri

A recent report from Give Me Sport said this on the matter.

It said: “Madrid will keep waiting to see what happens in terms of his future, but their hopes are not high whatsoever that Rodri will become a realistic and attainable target next year.”

What has Rodri said about signing a new deal at City?

A few weeks before the news broke out that the Blues want to tie the midfielder down to an extended contract, Rodri said this about possibly signing a new deal at City.

He said: “I try to analyse all the decisions I make, to have a criterion. And, above all, to go through the processes.

“I am very, very happy in England. I think I am in one of the best clubs in the world, that is obvious, and I am happy. I have a three-year contract and, when the time comes, I will see.

“But I have said it before with regard to the short term. I do not like or it does not make much sense to look at the long term.

“Spain is my country, Madrid is my city, at home. And well, when I went to Manchester, I remember a conversation I had with my parents in which they asked me if I was sure because I was going to another country, another culture.

“And, in the end, one is happy when one is sure of things. If I return, it would be with conviction.”

Having played a key role in City’s multiple trophy wins since his arrival in 2019, racking up 260 appearances for the Blues in total, it’s clear why the club would be eager to tie Rodri down to an extended deal.

Now that Real are seemingly not confident of signing the midfielder in the next summer window, this should spur City on to get the Spain international to pledge his future to the Manchester club.

However, in terms of matters on the pitch, Pep Guardiola will have to make sure he can get his side to win as much silverware as they can without having their talismanic midfielder in the team for this season.
