Manchester City are no slouches when it comes to spending money and bringing new players to the club.

For example, previous transfer windows have seen the Manchester club shell out significant fees to add the likes of Josko Gvardiol, Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes, among others, to their squad.

In this summer window, Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with numerous players from England and further afield.

One of those players is RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo, who Guardiola is apparently keen on adding to his squad according to a recent report from Bild.

With his €60m (£50m) release clause set to expire on July 20, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding City’s stance on the player and a possible move for him.

Man City’s stance on potential Dani Olmo transfer move

A recent report from The Athletic had this to say about the current interest Olmo has gathered from several of Europe’s top clubs, including City.

It said: “Sources close to the player, who asked to remain anonymous to protect relationships, say Barcelona’s interest is strong and that Olmo would be keen to go back given he spent seven years in the club’s academy.

“However, they point out that rejoining Barca is not something he is obsessed with and, with other clubs circling, they are not optimistic it will happen.

“One of those circling clubs could be Manchester City, who held talks with the player’s camp themselves earlier in the year. Olmo appears well-suited to Pep Guardiola’s system, too.

“However, four-in-a-row Premier League champions City are well-stacked in the wide positions with Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and the emerging Oscar Bobb.

“They also have strong coverage in central midfield, with Kevin De Bruyne expected to stay for next season.

“City are also prioritising a move for a deeper-lying midfielder to alleviate the pressure on Rodri. While signing Olmo cannot be ruled out due to their interest, there are obstacles, too.

“Bayern Munich are in a similar position to City regarding their stance on Olmo, as they have a few players they would need to move on before expressing serious interest in a raid on Bundesliga rivals Leipzig, including Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry.”

Olmo would add some strength and depth to City’s squad

While City do have a lot of top players in their ranks like the ones mentioned in the report, the fact that they have one of the smallest squads in the Premier League and regularly go far in the four competitions they play in throughout the season, securing a deal for Olmo would certainly add some extra strength and depth to their ranks.

However, if he isn’t likely to be getting regular game time, it may not be worth City shelling out the cash to sign him, especially if they have other priorities in the transfer market.
