Report: UCL giants have now actually pulled out of race to sign ‘amazing’ £60m Man City player

It has been reported that Barcelona have decided not to pursue a potential transfer for Manchester City outcast Joao Cancelo any longer.

This comes from Mundo Deportivo, as the £60 million (Sky Sports) man’s future remains undecided ahead of next season.

While it was claimed less than two weeks ago that Barcelona would try once again to sign Joao Cancelo, it seems like they have decided to abort this mission once and for all.

Why Barcelona have ruled out Joao Cancelo transfer from Manchester City

Branded as an ‘amazing player’ by Bernardo Silva, the 29-year-old’s career has gone downhill ever since joining Bayern Munich on loan from the Etihad Stadium.

With a report claiming that his relationship with Pep Guardiola became increasingly poor, which ultimately led to his mid-season move, the Portuguese full-back was also a mere bit-part player in Bavaria.

While it has seemed like clubs would queue up in numbers to sign a player as established as Joao Cancelo, it has been claimed that Barcelona certainly will not, as they consider the deal to be ‘financially unviable.’

With the Catalan giants’ financial instability needing no further introduction, it seems like they do not intend to bring him in anymore.

Joao Cancelo made the biggest mistake of his career last season

With Barcelona also ruling out a move for Joao Cancelo, one wonders which club will actually come forward and sign him.

After losing his place in the side to Nathan Ake at left-back and Rico Lewis at right-back after the World Cup, it seems like the decorated defender’s attitude really did not impress Pep Guardiola.

So much so that Guardiola himself admitted that Manchester City would have happily sold him to eternal rivals Manchester United if it came down to it.

If Cancelo had persisted and fought for his place like the rest of his teammates, he would likely have returned to his brilliant best and become a mainstay in a treble-winning side.

Instead, the 29-year-old’s career has become an unexpected mess.
