Rio Ferdinand has noted that Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is always smiling in warm-ups.
The former Manchester United defender does not seem to be too impressed by that.
So, what has Rio Ferdinand said about Manchester City and Kalvin Phillips? Let’s have a look.
What’s the story?
Well, Kalvin Phillips is struggling for playing time at Manchester City.
The England international midfielder joined City from Leeds United for £42 million in the summer of 2022.
Phillips struggled to make an impact last season, and things are not going any better for the 27-year-old this campaign.
The Englishman has made four substitute appearances in the Premier League and three substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for City this season.

Phillips made two starts in the Premier League and three substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League last season.
Former Manchester United and England international defender Rio Ferdinand has noted that Phillips smiles during warm-ups even knowing that he would not get to play.
Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel: “I have not seen Kalvin Phillips warming up without a smile. He ain’t played no minutes.”
No future at Manchester City for Kalvin Phillips, Joao Neves linked
I do not think that there is any future for Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City, especially as the defending Premier League and European champions are looking at Joao Neves now.
There is speculation that City manager Pep Guardiola has told the club’s bosses that they can sell Phillips in the January transfer window if they want.
The former Leeds star has interest from a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Juventus. Liverpool have also been linked.
And, 90min has reported that City are scouting Benfica defensive midfielder Joao Neves.
Neves is 19 and plays as a defensive midfielder. The teenager has made eight starts and three substitute appearances in the Portuguese league this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist in the process.
The Portugal international could be the replacement for Phillips, who did not start even when Rodri was suspended.
