Rodri could now be more likely to leave Man City because of what PSG did earlier this month

Alongside Erling Haaland, there is a strong case to be made that Rodri is Manchester City’s most prized asset.

Pep Guardiola compared Rodri to Lionel Messi in terms of his importance to this City side, which illustrates how highly the Catalan boss rates the midfielder considering he managed the Argentine at Barcelona.

However, with just two years left on his contract, it is no surprise that clubs are plotting a move for the Spanish international.

Real Madrid are eyeing Rodri as Toni Kroos’ successor, as Los Blancos are yet to replace the German after his departure last year.

Xabi Alonso keen to sign Rodri after PSG beat Real Madrid at FIFA Club World Cup

Manchester City fans will be hoping that Rodri resists the temptation of signing for Real Madrid and continues to cement his status as a legend at the Etihad Stadium.

However, the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Trent Alexander-Arnold have shown in recent years that once the Spanish giants come calling, it is near-impossible for a player to turn down their interest.

The Sun have reported that Real Madrid are willing to pay £100 million to sign Rodri. Xabi Alonso is particularly keen to sign his countryman after Los Merengues suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Real Madrid are of the belief that while Manchester City would not like to part ways with Rodri, a sizeable fee could tempt them into selling their conductor-in-chief. As a result, the white half of the Spanish capital are prepared to test City’s resolve this summer.

Real Madrid also believe that Rodri could be lured into a move despite having played for Atletico Madrid due to the prospect of playing his football in the city he was born and bred in.

Real Madrid’s stance on whether Rodri will sign a new contract

Manchester City intend to extend Rodri’s contract, which is another reason why the report claims Xabi Alonso is believed to have been pushing for his arrival at Real Madrid in the fear that he will put pen to paper.

However, Rodri and City’s contract talks haven’t particularly progressed.

As a result, the European powerhouse have a reason to believe that they could prise him away from the Etihad Stadium.
