Manchester City are not expected to be too busy on transfer deadline day.

The club have made two signings this summer, with Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan coming in from Troyes and Barcelona respectively.

Pep Guardiola is not expected to add to his squad before tonight’s transfer deadline.

There could be one or two outgoing though, with young player Joel Ndala linked with PSV Eindhoven and Issa Kabore set to join Benfica.

The one big-name City first-team player linked with an exit leading up to the transfer deadline has been Matheus Nunes.

He has reportedly had interest from Atletico Madrid and Saudi Arabia – and this morning, an update was dropped on the midfielder live on Sky Sports.

Nunes is a player who has not really delivered in a City shirt.

He arrived on deadline day last summer in a £53 million transfer from Wolves, but has struggled to start games under Pep.

The arrival of Gundogan probably doesn’t help his cause, and his future has been in a little bit of doubt heading into deadline day.

At 11.39am on Sky Sports News, an update was given on Nunes by reporter Ben Ransom. He says there is Premier League interest in the midfielder, but he is expected to stay at the club at this moment in time.

He said: “The one that could come out of left-field is still Matheus Nunes. Atletico are known to like him.

“There are also some murmurings that some Premier League clubs are keeping a watching brief on his situation too.

“As I’m told, right now, unlikely he moves. But could be one to keep an eye on as we get closer to the deadline later on.”

Nunes sealing a PL loan move would be good

It remains to be seen if anything will happen with Nunes today.

It would be great if he could seal a loan move to Atletico Madrid, but also really good if a Premier League club could take him on loan.

Nunes is in a weak position at City. It is difficult to see where his minutes are going to come from if he sticks around.

Ideally, he’ll head to a club that will play him week in, week out, and he will return to the club next summer in a much stronger position – either to challenge for a first-team place, or be sold for a similar amount to what he was bought for.
