Manchester City youngster James McAtee reportedly wants to sign for Sheffield United – and is keen to secure Pep Guardiola’s blessing for the move.

The 20-year-old has been the subject of speculation over the past few weeks.

The club rate him very highly.

But McAtee is still a young and inexperienced player, and the club have been waiting to make a decision on him based on what happens in the transfer market.

At the moment, City are looking to sign Matheus Nunes from Wolves.

Eberechi Eze is also on the club’s radar.

If one of those players comes in you would imagine McAtee will leave.

But that is seemingly something the youngster wants in any case…

According to journalist Alan Nixon today, McAtee is now keen on a return to Sheffield United, who are City’s opponents in the Premier League today.

He apparently wants to sign for the Blades on loan again and ‘hopes’ for Pep Guardiola’s blessing.

City had hoped to send McAtee to a top European club of a top-half Premier League side. This was something that was reported earlier this summer.

But seemingly McAtee wants to go back to the team he really impressed at last season in the Championship.

It is understandable. McAtee did well last term, and obviously the Blades are now in the Premier League.

So it would be a good opportunity for McAtee to kick on.

This will be an interesting situation to watch unfold.

City definitely rate McAtee really highly. Pep has previously described him as ‘a special player’.

But the club must take into account the player’s wishes – and McAtee’s apparent desire to rejoin Sheffield United ought to be considered.

He knows the players and the manager, and so it’s likely wouldn’t really need any time to ‘settle in’.

Surely it’s in City’s best interests to have McAtee playing regular football in the Premier League.
