‘Spectacular’: Gary Neville says 29-year-old Manchester City star played ‘beautiful’ football vs United

Gary Neville has branded Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva ‘spectacular’, following his performance against Manchester United.

City cruised to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford over their rivals. And arguably, there won’t be many easier games for Pep Guardiola’s side this season.

United did actually start brightly, but faded very quickly.

Rasmus Hojlund conceded a penalty for a foul on Rodri, with Erling Haaland converting the spot-kick. Haaland then added a second early in the second-half, before setting up Phil Foden for City’s third.

It was a superb performance from City, and it was so dominant that United appeared to just throw in the towel for the final 10 or 15 minutes of the game.

One man the Red Devils simply couldn’t get near was Bernardo Silva – and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville really hailed him on his post-match podcast…

Gary Neville hails Bernardo Silva after his stunning performance for Manchester City against Manchester United

Neville had raved about Bernardo Silva during the match, saying that he was knitting everything together and that he had been ‘class’.

But there was a chance for Neville to go a bit further with his praise after the game.

Speaking on his podcast, he said of the Portuguese maestro: “I just thought he was spectacular today. But not in a way that was power or strength or goals. Or anything that you would normally associate with that word. Just beautiful football.”

Pep Guardiola also had some very kind words for Bernardo after the win. The Spaniard stated that he and the whole squad had been worried that he would leave in the summer, describing him as ‘irreplaceable’.

It’s difficult to find words to describe how good Bernardo Silva is

It was just another outstanding performance from Bernardo, who is easily one of the best footballers on the planet at this point.

His immaculate ball control and dribbling are a sight to behold at times. He must be an absolute nightmare to defend against.

Guardiola’s comments say it all about the former AS Monaco man.

There was a real chance he could have left the club in the summer and that would have been a hammer blow. Because Bernardo is a player who can deliver amazing performances in almost any position on the pitch.

Players like that are very rare in football, and City fans are delighted that he stayed for at least one more season.
