Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong looks set to change clubs this summer.
The Dutch star has developed into one of the most exciting right-sided defenders in the world since moving to Germany in 2021, with Xabi Alonso bringing the best out of the 24-year-old over the last three seasons.
This has attracted several clubs to the player ahead of the summer transfer window, with Man City showing interest in Frimpong, as Pep Guardiola needs to replace the departing Kyle Walker in his current squad.
However, Liverpool are also making moves in the race for the Dutch star, and having chosen Man City the first time around, will the defender make the same decision this summer?

Jeremie Frimpong picked Man City over Liverpool for transport reasons
Frimpong joined Man City’s academy in 2010, which was a big coup at the time as the Dutch star was wanted by several other clubs, such as Liverpool.
The Reds were the defender’s first choice, however, the Bayer Leverkusen star chose Man City at the time as his family did not drive, which restricted his options.
Speaking to Rising Ballers back in January, Frimpong explained his situation before joining City, stating that playing for the Manchester club made more sense.
“There were scouts there. Like Liverpool, Bolton, Man City, and a lot more. I chose Liverpool first,” Frimpong said.
“I was going to sign for them, but back then, driving wasn’t a thing, you know. My family wasn’t driving, and it was far. Man City was local, so I tried Man City next. It made more sense. It was 15 minutes on the bus.”
Frimpong would not make it at Man City, and after nine years in Manchester, the full-back would join Celtic in 2019, before moving again to Germany.
It is unclear if Guardiola regrets selling Frimpong, with Liverpool now interested in the Bayer Leverkusen star, as things are about to come full circle for the Dutch talent, as he needs to choose between the two clubs again.

Liverpool closing in on Man City target Jeremie Frimpong
With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid this summer, Arne Slot is on the lookout for a new right-back, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions are advancing in talks to sign Frimpong after contact was made last week.
The Reds have already approached Bayer Leverkusen to discuss the player’s £29m (€35m) release clause, while talks are also underway on the player’s side with the defender said to be keen on joining Liverpool ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
This would be a blow to Guardiola, although the Spanish coach still has several options, with Man City’s top target being Flamengo’s Wesley, while the Manchester club are also interested in Newcastle’s Tino Livramento.
It remains to be seen which path City will go down, as left-back is another role that needs strengthening, with Guardiola hopeful of signing a player who can play both positions.
