The release clause of ‘unique’ Man City transfer target has now expired

Manchester City have only seen one new player join the club during the current summer transfer period.

This came back in July when the Blues announced that they had secured a five-year deal for Savinho, who made his move to the Etihad Stadium from Troyes.

Despite that, Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with moves for players from other Premier League sides and various clubs across Europe.

With the transfer window set to close at the end of the month, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding one particular player who has been linked with a move to City in recent weeks.

Eberechi Eze’s release clause has now expired

Earlier this summer, it was reported that City are interested in signing Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Back in June, it was claimed by the Daily Mail that the clause in the Englishman’s contract was set at £60m with additional add-ons worth £8m.

Now that the closing of the summer transfer window is in sight, journalist Bobby Manzi had this update to share about the Eagles star.

He said: “Exclusive: Understand Eberechi Eze’s Crystal Palace release clause expired at 5 pm tonight.

“The attacker has attracted interest from the likes of Manchester City this summer, but the release clause is no longer active.”

City would have to negotiate with Palace for Eze now

Dubbed a “unique” player by Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports, Eze has bagged 26 goals and supplied 17 assists in 124 appearances for Palace across all competitions prior to this weekend’s round of opening Premier League fixtures.

Now that the release clause in Eze’s contract has expired, this has taken away the option for City to secure a deal for him without having to negotiate with Palace.

Therefore, if they still want to secure the 26-year-old’s signature before the end of the month, they’ll have to work with the South London club to strike a deal that suits all parties.
