Troy Deeney makes ‘weird’ prediction for what Man City could do in vital Liverpool showdown

Manchester City have another chance to bring an end to their winless streak this afternoon.

Having lost five and drawn one of their six previous matches across all competitions, City take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League later today.

Arne Slot’s side are eight points above City at the top of the league table and head into today’s match off the back of a 2-0 win over Real Madrid in midweek.

In contrast, Pep Guardiola’s side have conceded 17 goals across the six previous games they’ve failed to win, with seven of those goals coming in their two most recent matches.

Despite that, a pundit and former Premier League player has shared a prediction that would seemingly go against the grain in terms of the form City have shown in recent weeks.

Troy Deeney makes ‘weird’ prediction for Man City vs Liverpool

Speaking to talkSPORT, Troy Deeney made this prediction when asked to describe how he feels today’s clash at Anfield will pan out.

He said: “I think City are going to be better organised.

“I think this is the perfect game for them. I know that’s a weird thing to say. But Liverpool just beat Real Madrid, so their fans are expectant. But this is the first time Man City have been underdogs in a game for the betting companies. So everyone is writing them off.

“I think they will be more together, more solid. I can see them nicking it, 2-1.”

A win would be massive for City

Given the gulf between the two sides at the moment and the dismal run of results City have picked up in recent weeks, securing a win at Anfield would be a very significant one for the Blues.

However, having won just two league games at Liverpool’s home ground in the Premier League era, this highlights how much of a difficult task it is to do for City.

To further highlight the importance of this game, Ilkay Gundogan said City must beat Liverpool in order to keep their hopes of lifting another Premier League trophy alive.

Now that Deeney has tipped the Blues to nick a win against the Merseyside club and deliver a better performance than they have in recent weeks, this is exactly what everyone connected to City will want to see.
