City went into both of those games without their star man – Erling Haaland.
Haaland has been injured recently, and City have had to try to adapt without their star forward.
Phil Foden played as a false nine vs Liverpool, but, unfortunately, that didn’t work out as Foden was criticised after the game.
Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Troy Deeney has been discussing City’s striker situation, and he’s questioned why Divin Mubama hasn’t featured on the bench for City.

Troy Deeney questions Divin Mubama absence
Deeney questioned why Pep Guardiola didn’t put a young striker on the bench against Liverpool.
The pundit claimed that City needed another option, pointing towards Divin Mubama as an ideal option.
Deeney actually claimed that Mubama appears to be cut from the same cloth as Haaland due to his stature and style of play.
“We’re never really allowed to talk about Pep Guardiola, but I’m not sure if the young man is injured, but how come there was no young striker on the bench? Haaland is out, you’ve got the boy they bought from West Ham, Mubama. He looks like he’s made in that same mould, big six foot plus runs on the shoulder, not even on the bench?”
Divin Mubama stats for Manchester City U21s
Deeney questioned why Mubama hasn’t featured for City on the bench recently, and he makes a good point.
City are short of strikers at the moment in Haaland’s absence, and just having that extra player as an option is never a bad idea.
We’ve seen teenagers rise to the occasion for other top Premier League teams in times of need over the years in the middle if injury crises.
Marcus Rashford got his start at Manchester United off the back of an injury crisis at Old Trafford, while Ethan Nwaneri is experiencing exactly that at Arsenal right now.
Mubama has been shining for Man City’s U21s this season, as the stats have shown.

Mubama has already played twice for the first-team too, and he’s already opened his account at City with a goal.
Would the 20-year-old have made a difference against Liverpool at the weekend? Probably not, but perhaps there are questions to be asked of how Pep Guardiola is using his young stars, especially as the likes of Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Morgan Rogers and Liam Delap are starring elsewhere in the Premier League at the moment after leaving City.
