Is Divin Mubama good and what position does he play?
Mubama is a left-footed striker with a fantastic goal rate at youth level for West Ham and was one of the Hammers’ most highly-rated prospects for years.
The teenager first signed for the London club when he was just eight years old and rose through the youth ranks in quick succession.
He made his senior debut when he was 18 on November 3, 2022, in the Europa Conference League tie against FCSB.
Though he didn’t quite get a debut goal that dreams are made of, it was his header that was deflected in for an own-goal when West Ham scored their second in the 3-0 win.
While still being around David Moyes’ first team, Mubama also played regularly for the youth sides and was a pivotal member of the squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2023.
Mubama finished top scorer in the competition with eight goals in just five games, including a hat-trick in the semi-final. Somehow, he didn’t manage to add to his tally in the 5-1 final win over Arsenal.
He also won West Ham’s Young Player of the Year award for the 2022-23 season and has represented England from U15-U20 level.
Meanwhile, Mubama would go on to make another 17 first-team appearances, scoring once against AEK Larnaca, before leaving the club on June 30, 2024, after choosing to let his contract expire.
Divin Mubama transfer to Man City
There has been plenty of interest in England and Europe in signing Mubama on a free transfer but it appears City have won the race, pipping Portuguese side Famalicao to the post.
The BBC reports the 19-year-old has chosen to join the Blues and is ready to agree personal terms.
The move remains subject to a medical and the plan is for Mubama to link up with the Elite Development Squad with a view of impressing to earn a chance in Guardiola’s first team.
Though the club have not yet officially announced the deal, Mubama himself confirmed it on his Instagram account.

How much will Mubama cost Manchester City?
Though Mubama is a free agent after allowing his contract to expire at West Ham, his transfer will not be completely free.
As is he still under the age of 23, West Ham are due a compensation fee for their hand in developing the youngster’s talent.
The clubs can either agree a fee between themselves or, if they fail to, there will be an arbitration process to determine how much City will pay.

According to the Daily Mail, a compensation fee of around £1.5m has been agreed upon.

Praise for Mubama
After scoring his first goal for West Ham, teammate Jarrod Bowen was full of praise for the youngster. He told TNT Sports: “He deserves it. When he trains with us we see how sharp he is.
“Even just little things like pressing the goalkeeper and always putting people under pressure and he got booked for chasing after him but that’s what these fans want. That’s what we demand of our players.
“He’s been a credit to himself and I’m buzzing for him to finally get the goal. It was disappointing for him to get the goal taken off him but tonight to finally get one he deserves it, well done bro.”
Speaking in November 2023, former West Ham boss David Moyes said: “His mentality and attitude are as good as any top player.
“He is so determined and works incredibly hard for the team. We need him to develop his actions and technical ability but he is only 19.
“We really like Divin, he’s an East End boy, he’s a West Ham supporter, he’s a great lad and we love him to bits and I feel the best thing for Divin would be to just sign a contract and be at West Ham.
“He’s got competition in front of him, but he’s only young. To be a 19-year-old center forward in the Premier League, you wouldn’t name many of them, that’s for sure, so he’s doing really well, he’s coming on, he’s involved with England, so we’re like him a lot.
“If I could have got him more opportunities, I will do, but again, as I said he’s a 19-year-old centre-forward and not many of them play too many games in the Premier League.”
