Txiki Begiristain admires Man City-linked England U21 star, it could be his final transfer masterclass

Txiki Begiristain has overlooked multiple transfer deals during his time as Manchester City’s director of football.

Having been at the club since 2012, the 60-year-old has been involved in a wide range of deals behind-the-scenes at the Etihad Stadium.

Not only transfer deals, but Begiristain also engineered seeing Pep Guardiola take charge of City back in 2016 and spend over eight years at the club which has seen the Blues win multiple domestic and European trophies.

With the recent announcement that Begiristain will be leaving Man City at the end of the season, some behind-the-scenes information has come to light regarding one potential final transfer deal the Spaniard could make before leaving the Manchester club.

Txiki Begiristain is a big fan of Man City transfer target Adam Wharton

According to a recent report from Give Me Sport, Begiristain is a big admirer of Adam Wharton, who the report claims could find it difficult to turn down a transfer move to City in January if they launch a move for him.

City were linked with a move for Wharton back in the summer window, although it was claimed that the Crystal Palace midfielder was seen more as a long-term target rather than someone to sign in the here and now.

How much could Adam Wharton cost City?

Back in August, it was reported by Football Transfers that Palace value Wharton at a whopping £100m, which is the fee City paid to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa back in 2021.

With City losing Rodri to a season-ending injury during their 2-2 draw against Arsenal, this highlights the Manchester club’s need to potentially add a new midfielder to their squad during the upcoming January transfer window.

Also, with Begiristain having a track record of bringing players from other Premier League clubs to City such as Grealish as well as others like Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic among others, a move for Wharton in January could be the next one in this particular trend.

Overall, with Begiristain now approaching his exit from City, landing a January deal for Wharton could be his final transfer masterstroke for the Manchester club.
