Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Micah Hamilton, who stole the headlines against Red Star Belgrade.
The Catalan boss broke down why he was impressed by Hamilton’s showing during his side’s 3-2 victory in his post-match press conference (via HaytersTV).
Bursting onto the scene with an impeccable goal while also winning the penalty for Kalvin Phillips’ strike from 12 yards out, it is no surprise to see why the Manchester City wonderkid has become the talk of the town.
Pep Guardiola praises “aggressive” Micah Hamilton after Manchester City beat Red Star Belgrade
After the contest, Joleon Lescott lauded the 20-year-old’s “remarkable” confidence on his senior debut for his boyhood club.
While Neil Lennon credited the youngster for scoring a belter of a goal “on the big stage.”
As Manchester City got over the line against Red Star Belgrade, Pep Guardiola reserved special praise for Micah Hamilton.

“What a goal. And what a game. So happy for him, so, he’s training quite often with us and we saw his skills up front, one against one and make a fantastic goal and [he won the] penalty, and when he could not make one against one, he gave extra passes. Defensively, he was aggressive”, Guardiola said in his press conference (via HaytersTV).
“Yeah, congratulations for all the academy, so for the last years, how many players came up, how many we sell, played already in [the] Premier League, in [the] Championship, even more. We came in and after, we conceded a goal and how stable was after that and he played well, so very pleased for Micah for his debut.”
Micah Hamilton could be a potential option on the right flank
It was interesting to note how Pep Guardiola decided to play Manchester City talent Micah Hamilton on the right wing against Red Star Belgrade, considering he tends to play as a left-winger or as an attacking midfielder.
Perhaps the presence of Jack Grealish on the opposite flank meant the highly-rated dribbler was tasked with playing on the right flank.
However, Hamilton passed the test of playing on the right wing with flying colours, he could perhaps be considered as a genuine option for the first-team in that position.
Currently, Jeremy Doku looks at his devastating best on the left wing.
While Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva are perhaps City’s best pair of advanced midfielders currently due to Kevin De Bruyne being sidelined due to injury.
Whether Manchester City try to bolster their wide options in January is a mystery for the time being.
But as things stand, Micah Hamilton showcased that he has all the tools to emerge as an intriguing option for Pep Guardiola as a right-winger.
