Manchester City continued their great form last night, beating Brentford 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium – with Phil Foden the star of the show.
Pep Guardiola‘s side got to within two points of Liverpool, with Foden hitting a hat-trick for City.
The England international was in fine fettle once again, operating in a central role along with Kevin De Bruyne and Julian Alvarez.
After Brentford had taken the lead, Foden equalised on the stroke of half-time, latching onto a poor headed clearance.
In the second-half he then scored a header, and finished off his hat-trick with a clinical finish after a nice lay off from Erling Haaland.

Foden was sublime last night for City, as he once again played through the middle. Sky commentator Alan Smith branded him ‘wonderful’ at the end of the game, as he chose him as his player of the match.
It’s a position he really loves, and his ability to take the ball on the half-turn and then drive forward is brilliant.
The 23-year-old is the main man for City at the moment, and has now contributed 14 goals and nine assists in all competitions.
He is in the form of his life at the moment, and it is brilliant to see him contributing regularly after a bit of a stop-start season last year.
Last night, Foden posted on Instagram after his hat-trick – and quite a few players commented congratulating him and expressing their amazement.
He wrote: “Buzzzinnnnn! What a night. So grateful.”
Plenty of players responded, with Jack Grealish one of the first to reply. The winger wrote ‘Unbelievable Geoff’, while defender Josko Gvardiol added ‘What a performance tonight!’ along with three fire emojis.
Foden dazzling
It is hard to recall a time when Foden has played better than this for City.
The England international just seems to be unplayable at the moment and is absolutely oozing confidence playing in the middle.
He had a bit of a frustrating season last time out, but is now grabbing games by the scruff of the neck and dominating. Pep Guardiola recently suggested that he has become more of a matchwinner for City, and that is a huge thing going forward.
City fans will hope he can keep playing like this for as long as possible – if he does, then there is going to be a very good chance of a fourth straight Premier League title, with Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland both having returned.
