What agents are saying ‘privately’ behind the scenes about Manchester City’s current squad

Changes are coming to Manchester City this summer.

Pep Guardiola’s side experienced a tough 2024/25 campaign, which saw City go from winning four Premier League titles in a row to needing to secure a place in the Champions League on the final day of the season.

The biggest reason for this was Man City resting on their laurels last summer, which wasn’t helped when Rodri suffered a long-term knee injury at the start of the campaign.

The Manchester clubs plan to learn from their mistakes this summer, and it looks like it is going to be a lot different, going by what agents have been saying behind the scenes.

Most of Man City’s squad is up for sale

Kevin De Bruyne is leaving Man City this summer, and although the Belgian is only one of a few already confirmed to be departing, the midfielder will not be the only star heading for the exit door at the Etihad Stadium.

According to the Daily Mail, it is being said behind the scenes that Man City are willing to sell the majority of their squad this summer if the offer is right, as Guardiola is planning a revamp.

“Agents speak privately of most of the City squad being for sale if the price is right and it remains likely that the team who start next season — only a month after the Club World Cup is due to end — will be all but unrecognisable from the one that started this campaign with a straightforward 2-0 win at Chelsea in August,” Ian Ladyman wrote.

Jack Grealish is very likely to leave Man City this summer, while the future of Ilkay Gundogan remains in doubt as the Manchester club continues to push for their midfield targets.

Guardiola is keen to add four or five new faces, and his starting 11 for the first game of the Premier League season will certainly look a lot different to the one that defeated Chelsea 2-0 back in August.

How Man City lined up on the opening day of the season

Man City were 2-0 winners on the opening weekend of the 2024/25 Premier League season courtesy of goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic.

Guardiola played a 3-4-3 formation for the trip to Stamford Bridge, with a line up of Ederson; Gvardiol, Dias, Akanji; Kovacic, Lewis; Savio, De Bruyne, Silva, Doku; and Haaland picked to face the Blues.

Out of this team, Ederson, Silva, and De Bruyne might not all be in Manchester after the summer, while the likes of Doku, Savio and Lewis will need to fight for their place next season.

In hindsight, that team was never strong enough to challenge for the Premier League, a mistake Guardiola will not make again.
