Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.

The Citizens have had a busy summer on the transfer front as they look to ensure a difficult 2024/25 season will be a mere blip.

James Trafford, Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Sverre Nypan, and Marcus Bettinelli have all arrived at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City have also moved several players on, such as Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne, Yan Couto and Maximo Perrone.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has shared what the Citizens have told Stefan Ortega in the wake of Trafford’s return to the club.

Manchester City tell Stefan Ortega he can leave the club

Romano has taken to X to claim that City have told Ortega he can leave the club now that Trafford has re-joined the Citizens.

Ortega’s future has been uncertain for a number of weeks now, with reports claiming Man City were likely to let Ortega leave.

However, it looks as though the club have now communicated this to the German keeper, and his camp is set to look for solutions ahead of the transfer deadline.

The clubs said to be interested in Stefan Ortega

Leicester City and Burnley are two Premier League clubs who have been linked with Ortega in recent weeks.

Burnley are obviously looking for a replacement for Trafford, while Leicester have let Danny Ward leave on a free transfer as Mads Hermansen continues to be linked with a move away.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are also reported to be in the picture for Ortega, and whoever signs him will be getting a superb goalkeeper.

Pep Guardiola deemed Ortega “world-class” and “exceptional” after his efforts against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2024.

“Ortega is a world-class goalkeeper,” Guardiola told BBC Sport after Ortega’s display effectively rubber-stamped City’s fourth title in a row.

“An exceptional, exceptional goalkeeper.”
