Manchester City were linked with numerous players during the recent summer transfer window.

One player City were said to have an interest in is Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala, who Pep Guardiola saw as a top target for the summer according to a report from The Guardian back in April.

As things stand, the German’s contract at his current club is set to expire in the summer of 2026.

Now though, a key figure at Bayern has shared some comments about the reported City target and what the German club’s stance on him is.

Bayern Munich president opens up on Jamal Musiala’s future

In a recent post on his X account, journalist Manuel Bonke relayed these comments from Bayern president Herbert Hainer about Musiala and his future when asked about a potential contract extension for the midfielder.

He said: “We want to try everything to keep him as long as possible. In my opinion, he could become the second Thomas Müller and play for Bayern for the next 20 years.”

City must try and sign Musiala if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Bayern

With 166 senior appearances for Vincent Kompany’s side under his belt, the 21-year-old has scored 44 goals and provided 31 assists in the process.

Starting both of Bayern’s two Bundesliga games this season, the Germany international has scored one of the five goals the club have bagged.

Earlier this week, it was reported that City are hoping that a transfer move for Musiala next summer would be enough to convince Guardiola to extend his contract at the club.

Having proved himself to be one of Europe’s top young talents, it’s understandable why Hainer has said that it’s Bayern’s aim to keep hold of the midfielder for as long as possible.

However, if Musiala doesn’t sign a new contract beforehand, City should do all they can to land his signature next summer.
