Pundit John Giles has raved over Bernardo Silva following his amazing performance for Manchester City against Manchester United, and believes he should continue playing the same position he did on Sunday.
Giles spoke about the Portuguese maestro on the latest podcast episode of The Stand with Eamon Dunphy.
Bernardo has come in for all kinds of praise since his display at Old Trafford. The 29-year-old was outstanding for City, and linked up so well with Jack Grealish in particular on the left side.
Bernardo also laid on an assist for Erling Haaland to make it 2-0, but City went on to add a third through Phil Foden, and he just completely dictated the game for the visitors.
He was Gary Neville’s man-of-the-match when the dust had settled, with the Sky pundit branding him ‘spectacular’. Alan Shearer also said that he was on ‘another level’.
And the praise has continued, with Giles blown away by Silva’s control of the game…
John Giles hails Manchester City star Bernardo Silva after derby performance

Giles could not hide how impressed he was with Bernardo’s display at United.
Speaking to Eamon Dunphy, he said: “They let a couple of midfield players go. The midfield particularly with Foden and Bernardo Silva – brilliant.
“He played in his best position, I think if they keep him there in his best position and also use Foden, they’ll replace the players they let go in a big way. Especially Silva, he controlled the midfield. He’s the one that can do it. When he doesn’t play, they don’t have anyone else controlling the midfield.”
£43 million star Bernardo was operating in a kind of inside left position on Sunday.
He was playing deep alongside Rodri at times, but did push on when there were opportunities to do so, and United really struggled to keep tabs on him.
Bernardo is brilliant in the position he played vs Manchester United
Arguably Bernardo’s best position on the field was the one he playing in against United.
Realistically, he is fantastic wherever he operates. But he is extra special in that deeper role and pushing on where possible.
He has the technical quality and intelligence to look so comfortable in that role.
Perhaps him in there along with Rodri is how City can have the most control possible.
