Manchester City have been rocked by an injury to promising youngster Oscar Bobb just days before the new season.

Fans have been very impressed watching Bobb over the last few weeks in pre-season, with the Norwegian youngster being the standout player in the US.

The 21-year-old then shone in the Community Shield against Manchester United, with his performance drawing praise from pundit Ian Wright.

But rumours began circulating on social media last night that Bobb had sustained a bad injury in training, and then multiple outlets started reporting that he had suffered a leg fracture.

Supposedly, the injury occurred with no other player near him. Bobb was turning, and then it happened.

City fans are hoping for an official update from the club, but there was one update issued last night.

After selling Julian Alvarez, losing Bobb to a serious injury was really not what Pep Guardiola needed.

The youngster has been brilliant lately, and many were expecting him to enjoy a greater role in 2024/25, potentially with most of his minutes coming from the right side.

But he is now set for a spell on the sidelines in what is a cruel blow for the star.

Amid all the reaction on social media last night, there was one update from the Manchester City correspondent for The Athletic Sam Lee regarding when Bobb could be back playing again.

He wrote: “Oscar Bobb fractured his leg during training today, but it is not a very serious break and City are hopeful he will be back before the end of 2024.

“Full extent yet to be confirmed, but terrible luck for him ahead of the new season.”

It has been suggested by BBC Sport that Bobb could now fly out to Barcelona for further treatment.

Nightmare for Bobb

So Bobb could well be missing for a few months for City and this development is such a cruel blow for him.

He looked all set to take the Premier League by storm after such a fantastic pre-season, and now he must deal with a frustrating setback.

The Alvarez sale had potentially opened the door for him. But he will not get the chance to capitalise right away.

It is going to be interesting now to see how Guardiola reacts. If another attacking player comes in, then Bobb could have more competition for when he returns.
