Manchester City picked up a vital win on Wednesday night, beating Spurs 1-0 away from home.
The game was won in the 12th minute as Erling Haaland netted for his 20th Premier League goal of the season. In truth, though, Haaland could’ve had a hat-trick in the first half, and City could’ve scored four or five.
But their wastefulness didn’t matter in the end. Pep Guardiola’s side held on for a first away win in the league since their 6-0 demolition of Ipswich Town in mid-January, returning to winning ways after their 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool previously.
City remain in 4th place of the Premier League table. And despite a rocky run of late, the Man City players seem to be pulling the same direction as they vie to finish inside the Champions League qualification places ahead of next season.
But at half-time of the game against Spurs, there was a bit of a rift between Haaland and full-back Matheus Nunes, which many fans spotted as the players headed into the changing rooms.

What happened between Erling Haaland and Matheus Nunes during Spurs vs Man City
City finished the first half strong. They should’ve been going into the break a few goals in front after the likes of Haaland and Savinho both missed good chances. Then as City broke on the cusp of half-time, Nunes fluffed an attempted pass as City looked to break. It left Haaland fuming as the whistle went for half-time.
Journalist Sam Lee documented the event. As the players walked into the changing rooms, Haaland was visibly angry at Nunes, with Guardiola first consoling Nunes but then appearing animated in whatever he was saying to the former Wolves man.
Man City snapped up Nunes, 26, in a £53million deal from Wolves in September 2023. So far this season, the Brazilian full-back has made 18 Premier League appearances for City, assisting four.
Matheus Nunes admits he’d like to return to Sporting CP
Nunes made his name with Sporting CP in Portugal before Wolves brought him to England in 2022. And speaking recently, Nunes revealed that he wants to return to Sporting CP at some point in his career.
He explained: “Obviously I want to come back, and I’ve said that several times… I’m not going to say dates, obviously, I’m not going to estimate that, but obviously I’m going to come back.”
City fans are very divided over Nunes. He’s been hit and miss since making the move to the Etihad and Haaland’s frustrations with the player might sum up how a lot of fans feel about him this season.
Rico Lewis is by far the preferred choice but Nunes is a useful option for Guardiola to rotate his side. Though if he fails to live up to expectations then City might look to cash in this summer, in a bid to fund their upcoming rebuild.
