Why are Manchester City wearing a gold badge against Everton? Some may be wondering after tuning into the Premier League clash against Everton.

Pep Guardiola’s men have rocked up to Goodison Park with a new addition to their kit – which features a gold shield between the club badge and the Puma logo.

So, why are Manchester City wearing a gold badge in the Premier League clash against Everton? Let’s take a look…

Why Manchester City are wearing a gold badge vs Everton

Well, this is quite the honour for Manchester City.

Guardiola’s side have been allowed to add the gold emblem – officially known as the FIFA Champions Badge – onto their shirts for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign after winning the FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool and Chelsea were previously denied the chance to show off the FIFA Champions Badge after lifting the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 and 2021 respectively – the Premier League put their foot down, only allowing both to wear it once and no more.

However – on this occasion – the Premier League have completely changed their tune, granting Manchester City permission to wear the gold emblem for the entire remainder of the season.

The Citizens can also display the FIFA Champions Badge in the UEFA Champions League.

Only a handful of English clubs have lifted the FIFA Club World Cup in the past, so it is a real show of prestige from Manchester City to turn up on Merseyside with the special feature.

What else did Manchester City bring back from the FIFA Club World Cup?

Along with the FIFA Champions Badge, Manchester City also brought home £4m in prize money after winning the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia – as detailed by the Mirror.
