Arne Slot insists why ‘no one’ should feel sorry for Pep Guardiola despite Man City’s defeat vs Liverpool

Arne Slot and his Liverpool side would be over the moon after having managed to beat Manchester City 2-0 at Anfield.

While Liverpool look like the favourites to win the Premier League title after having further extended the gap between both sides to 11 points, Manchester City are in a top four race according to Jamie Carragher.

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Ilkay Gundogan previewed the Liverpool clash by warning that a defeat could potentially signal the end of City’s chances to win the title.

Manchester City’s woes continued during their latest trip to Merseyside as they showed little to no signs of being able to push Liverpool in the title race.

Ruben Dias promised Manchester City supporters that the spirit within the camp to get back to winning ways will not be impacted by their latest defeat.

However, Pep Guardiola and Co are neither getting the results or the performances on the pitch to suggest that the City fans should keep the faith in them as serious title contenders this season.

Arne Slot reveals “no one has to feel empathy” for Pep Guardiola

When quizzed about whether he feels sorry for Pep Guardiola undergoing such a difficult spell, Arne Slot insisted that the reasons why he does not is due to Manchester City still being in the title race and the Catalan’s enviable CV.

Slot said via HaytersTV: “You feel sympathy or empathy for managers that are in a really bad place. So, they’ve either lost many games or they’re down at the bottom of the league. Pep [Guardiola] has won so many things.”

“And he’s shown so many times already, that’s why the league is not decided in November or December. Last season, they were eight points behind Arsenal somewhere in February. So, no one has to feel empathy or sorry for Pep.”

The Liverpool boss concluded: “Maybe for other managers, not for Pep, he’s won so many things and he will be able to bring City back and they’re actually still at the top of the table but even more than they are now.”

Gary Neville questioned Pep Guardiola would be able to revitalise this Manchester City side to the extent that they turn thing around and go on to win the title now.

Didi Hamann suspects Guardiola’s frustrations at being unable to replace the injured Rodri and whip his Sky Blues side into shape to become as remarkably consistent as they have been over the past few years.

Guardiola reveals ‘delusional’ Man City prediction after Liverpool defeat

The Catalan will not be expecting any sympathy from Arne Slot or any other manager at this moment in time.

Guardiola’s “delusional” prediction about Manchester City, as per his own admission is that they will start winning matches consistently now.

Pep Guardiola said: “Call me delusional but I have the feeling that from here, we will start to build back to winning games and confidence.”

A return to the Etihad Stadium to face Nottingham Forest could give Manchester City the chance to prove Guardiola right.

Whether City bounce back remains to be seen as they continue to look unconvincing as a unit on the pitch.

But serial winners such as Pep Guardiola and his players will not be feeling sorry for themselves and instead be more motivated than ever to make a mockery of their detractors.
