Aymeric Laporte says he wants Ilkay Gundogan to stay at Man City

Aymerica Laporte hopes Ilkay Gundogan will stay at Manchester City, as speculation continues to swirl about his future.

There has still be no word about what the the German is going to do.

City would like him to stay.

But an agreement has not yet been reached, and there is interest from other clubs.

Barcelona have been the team most heavily linked.

City fans were sent into a bit of a panic when the club released their retained list, which did not include Gundogan’s name.

That does not necessarily mean he will be leaving though – he could yet extend.

And man who’d like to see that is Laporte.

Many City players are currently on international duty, following their Treble win.

At the moment Laporte is with the Spain squad, along with Rodri, and he gave an interview with RAC1.

And the former Athletic Bilbao star made his feelings very clear about Gundogan, saying: “I want Ilkay Gundogan to stay at Man City.”

This is also interesting because Laporte himself as been linked with an exit.

If Laporte is wanting Gundogan to stay, then that could be significant. Why would he really be that bothered about what Gundogan is doing if he himself was leaving.

Man City really need to keep hold of Ilkay Gundogan

Gundogan has shown over the last few months that he needs to be kept. Former Leeds United manager Sam Allardyce recently saw his quality up close and was blown away by him, branding him ‘outstanding’.

This is a player capable of playing so many different roles and to the highest standard.

Hopefully the club is able to come to an agreement very soon.

It remains to be seen what happens with Laporte. He looked very emotional on the day City lifted the Premier League title, as if to suggest that he will be leaving this behind this summer.

But now he’s making comments about hoping a teammate will stay.

If Laporte still goes, then Josko Gvardiol needs to be his replacement.
