This summer will see major changes take place at Manchester City.
The 2024/25 campaign has been an underwhelming one for Pep Guardiola’s squad by their high standards as the Manchester outfit are currently fighting for a place in next season’s Champions League, although that goal has nearly been achieved.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 35 | 25 | 7 | 3 | 81 | 35 | 46 | 82 | |
| 2 | 35 | 18 | 13 | 4 | 64 | 31 | 33 | 67 | |
| 3 | 35 | 19 | 7 | 9 | 67 | 43 | 24 | 64 | |
| 4 | 35 | 19 | 6 | 10 | 66 | 45 | 21 | 63 | |
| 5 | 35 | 18 | 9 | 8 | 62 | 41 | 21 | 63 |
Man City are currently on an undefeated run of nine matches and Guardiola will hope to carry that into next season, where City could have a new look about them.
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is Man City’s top target ahead of the 2025/26 campaign with the German set to be tasked with replacing a £55m star, who Ben Foster now believes is too slow to play in the Premier League.

Kevin De Bruyne is not a good fit for Aston Villa
After ten years in Manchester since his £55m move from Wolsburg, Kevin De Bruyne’s Man City career will come to an end this summer when the Belgian’s contract at the Etihad expires.
MLS outfit Chicago Fire are expected to be the next club De Bruyne plays for, although it was reported recently that Aston Villa have an interest in the Man City superstar.
Speaking about this potential move on the latest episode of Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast, Foster believes De Bruyne no longer has the legs to compete in the Premier League consistently and that a move to Villa Park would not be a good one for the Birmingham club.
“First of all, I don’t think it’s too early for him to be leaving Man City, because I think Man City have fallen into this, not a trap, but the reason why they haven’t been so successful this year is because they haven’t had the legs,” the former goalkeeper stated.
“The reason why is because they’re not getting back as quickly as they used to, they’re not springing forward as quickly, because the legs aren’t quite there.
“And I think KDB, part of the reason why he was so successful is because when he had the legs and he was so mobile, he could get about, but his ability, it’s not even a question, but the legs part of it had started to go a little bit.”

“That’s the problem, right, his legs had started. So he needs to join a team where he’s gonna have people around him that can do that running, where he will be the focal point of, the ball just goes through him all the time, and not worrying about him getting forward, not worrying about him getting back so much, but just give him the ball and he will dictate everything. So I don’t necessarily think that would work for Villa.”
Jamie Carragher has shared similar concerns regarding De Bruyne with the former Liverpool star recently explaining why the Belgian’s situation is not similar to Mohamed Salah’s at Liverpool.

What Jamie Carragher has been saying about Kevin De Bruyne
The last two seasons have seen De Bruyne deal with several injury issues as the 33-year-old’s body tries to keep up with the demands of playing for Manchester City.
Taking this into consideration, in addition to the superstar’s £400-a-week salary, Carragher believes Man City were justified in not offering De Bruyne a new deal as the Belgian doesn’t play 40/50 games a season like Salah and Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool.
| Injury | Games missed |
| Hamstring injury (24/25) | 12 |
| Stomach issue (23/24) | 1 |
| Groin strain (23/24) | 2 |
| Fitness issue (23/24) | 3 |
| Hamstring injury (23/24) | 30 |
| Foot bruise (22/23) | 3 |
Carragher doubled down on this view even after the 33-year-old’s role in Man City’s recent win over Wolves and it not an uncommon one witin the football world.
Man City fans would love De Bruyne to stay at the Etihad for longer, however, the signs have shown that a move to MLS may be perfect timing for the Premier League legend.
