Bernardo Silva says £50m star is easily the fastest player at Man City – it’s not Erling Haaland

If there is a player at Manchester City who is not blessed with searing pace, it is Bernardo Silva.

Jack Grealish claimed Bernardo is “so slow” and yet, the England international emphasised how his teammates has given rapid left-backs like Alphonso Davies nightmares during Manchester City’s treble-winning season.

Bernardo is one player who can get away with not being particularly quick as his footballing brain sets him apart from the rest.

However, some of the Portuguese international’s teammates at Manchester City are remarkably fast.

Anthony Elanga claimed Erling Haaland is the Premier League’s fastest player alongside himself and Micky van de Ven.

Kylian Mbappe marvelled at Jeremy Doku’s pace — claiming that he discussed the Belgian’s speed with his father during the winger’s time at Rennes.

Kyle Walker is another player who always merits his place in such discussions as well.

Bernardo Silva says Kyle Walker is definitely the fastest player at Man City

With the number of quick players City have within their ranks, it is tough to ascertain which of their big names is the quickest.

Ultimately, even every fast player has their own strengths and weaknesses running over different distances.

However, when quizzed about which player is the fastest at Manchester City, Bernardo did not hesitate in opting for Walker.

The 30-year-old told Pro: Direct Soccer: “That’s an easy one, isn’t it?”

“Kyle Walker.”

“I just think it’s very natural. I don’t know if he worked a lot on it as a kid. But it’s just one of those things that you have it when you’re born and he’s very lucky.”

Kevin De Bruyne revealed Walker is faster than Doku without a shadow of a doubt.

The £50 million man still manages to go toe-to-toe with some of the fastest players in the Premier League.

Paul Merson reckons Walker is getting quicker with age as well.

Kyle Walker reveals he was at his quickest at Tottenham

The 34-year-old is still incredibly fast.

But in an interview on Timbsy’s YouTube channel, Walker revealed he was at his absolute quickest in the years 2015 and 2016 at Tottenham Hotspur.

“So, 2017, I came to Man City. I would probably say 2015, ’16 [2016] was probably my quickest when me and Danny Rose were on the [flanks as Tottenham’s high-flying full-backs].”

“That’s probably when I felt the fittest, when I was probably my leanest and I felt I could really move my weight. But I probably got stronger and powerful being at City.”

Even if Walker’s pace declined since his move to Manchester City, he remained one of the fastest players in world football and more importantly, a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s success at the club.

The Englishman became one of the best right-backs in the world at City and perhaps his physical development played a key role in him keeping world-class wingers quiet for club and country.
