Fabrizio Romano shares the one condition under which Bayern would make a move for £50m Man City target

Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update about Bayern Munich’s interest in signing a player Manchester City have repeatedly been linked with.

The Bundesliga side seem geared to equip Vincent Kompany with top players in the transfer window — with the club having signed Michael Olise from Crystal Palace and Joao Palhinha from Fulham.

After suffering the disappointment of finishing 18 points in the league table behind champions Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern would be looking to leapfrog from third place to winning the league again.

One poor season does not eradicate the Bavarian giants from being regarded as one of the most attractive destinations for any player in world football.

However, Manchester City would likely fancy themselves up against Bayern when trying to seal the deal for one of their targets — like they would for any player whose services they intend to secure.

Dani Olmo is one player whose reputation has soared since helping Spain win the tournament.

On Wednesday, it was claimed that Pep Guardiola has been interested in Olmo’s signature for a year — who put in yet another impressive display for Luis de la Fuente’s side in their 2-1 win against England in the final of the European Championship.

It was reported on Friday that while City’s priority is to sign a midfielder who is much more comfortable playing in deeper areas and can alleviate Rodri’s burden of being a constant starter, the club’s interesting in signing the Spanish international cannot be ruled out.

The RB Leipzig technician — whose €60 million (£50.4 million) release clause now expires on July 20 rather than July 15, as per Fabrizio Romano due to Spain’s displays at Euro 2024 — is one of the most in-form players in the world.

As per Romano, the move for Manchester City-linked attacker Olmo is “considered a possibility” by Bayern if their potential loan deal for Xavi Simons falls through.

The 26-year-old is believed to be on the club’s summer transfer shortlist.

Manchester City should back themselves over Bayern in Dani Olmo race

If Bayern are unable to sign Simons and make it their priority to sign Olmo, Manchester City should back themselves to beat them to his signature.

The German giants are coming off the back of their first season since 2012 where they failed to win a trophy.

Manchester City, on the other hand, won the Premier League title and unlike in Vincent Kompany’s case, Pep Guardiola is as experienced as it comes when it comes to managers.

If given a choice between joining City or Bayern, Olmo should logically head to England — due to the Sky Blues being in a better place as a club, how they guarantee success nowadays, the presence of Guardiola and how much he could improve as a player under his countryman’s guidance.
