Darren Bent explains why Erling Haaland is not in a ‘crisis’ despite three-game goal drought at Man City

Manchester City are now the only side in the Premier League to be unbeaten with eight games played.

Across those eight league matches, City have won six and drawn two, scoring more goals (19) than any other side in the division.

One figure in City’s squad who has played a key role in the season so far is Erling Haaland.

Specifically, having started in all eight league matches, the striker has scored 10 goals, which is more than seven top-flight clubs have been able to.

Now – however – a pundit who knows a thing or two about scoring goals in the Premier League, has made a claim about Haaland’s recent run of form and what his mindset will currently be.

Darren Bent disregards Erling Haaland goal drought issue

With Haaland having not scored a goal in any of his three previous Premier League appearances, Darren Bent gave this explanation on talkSPORT (22/10 16:46) on why this isn’t a problem for the City striker.

He said: “He won’t see it like that. And the reason he won’t see it like that is because he scored twice for Norway against Slovenia and he scored against Bratislava in the Champions League.

“So in his head, he might be like it might be three league games but I’m still smashing the goals in regularly.

“You look at it and he’s still got two goals in his last three games, or three in his last five. So in his head [it won’t bother him], but I expect him to hit the back of the net at some point soon.

“If you go three games without scoring a goal people say oh that’s not that bad, but for him, you go crisis. He’ll go on a crazy run and then there might be a three-game period where he doesn’t score and then go on a crazy run again.

“He’s still the best in world football. One of the best goalscorers. Arguably one of the greatest goalscorers.

“Obviously Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the greatest goalscorers there’s been but certainly in my generation. He’s one of the greatest goalscorers we’ve ever seen, that’s for sure.

“Look how big he is, he’s got everything. Quick, strong, got a good touch, good finish.”

Bent has backed Haaland to become a Premier League legend

Having completed the full 90 minutes in City’s three previous league matches against Newcastle United, Fulham and Wolves, the Norwegian has failed to find the back of the net.

Despite that, several weeks into the season, Bent claimed that Haaland will become a Premier League legend as a result of his goalscoring ability.

In fact, Bent also backed Haaland to beat Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record if he ends up staying at City for a significant period of time.

While the former Tottenham Hotspur striker thinks Haaland’s mindset will allow him to not see his league goal drought as an issue, Pep Guardiola and the City supporters will definitely want him to get back into the goalscoring groove soon so he can help fire the Blues to another Premier League trophy.
