Harry Redknapp has said that Manchester City trickster Jeremy Doku could give Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro a world of problems.
The retired manager told the Sun that Doku is a “breath of fresh air” and praised how well he has performed in the Premier League so far.
It seems like the £50,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man’s performances have taken many by surprise, with Josko Gvardiol admitting that it is unbelievable how quick his feet are and how rapid he is.
Harry Redknapp says Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku could give Tottenham right-back Pedro Porro a hard time
Rio Ferdinand also claimed that the 21-year-old has managed to put “every right-back on notice” in England as the popular pundit highlighted how he is “baking and shaking”defenders across the league.
While Jermaine Beckford hailed the Belgian’s signing as an “absolutely stunning acquisition.”
Harry Redknapp initially sang Jeremy Doku’s praises, telling the Sun, “But in Doku, City have an old-school winger who is absolute dynamite. A man whose first thought isn’t to play it safe but to turn and take on the full-back, to attack and create. If I had to choose one man who’s lit up the Premier League this season, it’s Doku. At a time when there is such a stink over VAR, he has been a breath of fresh air.”
He added, “Not so much a guy who puts bums on seats, as gets backsides out of them because he makes things happen. There aren’t many games now when the full-back gets put under any serious, sustained pressure.”
With Jeremy Doku ripping full-backs to shreds since joining Manchester City, Harry Redknapp highlighted how he could give Tottenham technician Pedro Porro the same treatment.

“Players are more intent on a safe pass and keeping possession than running at their opponent and trying to be positive. But in Doku, Pep has a player who thinks the opposite. Someone who is killing defenders, in a football sense, every time he gets the ball. I feel sorry for Pedro Porro, who will be the one in his firing line today when Tottenham are at the Etihad.”
“Porro’s done alright in his first season in England but he will have his hands full this afternoon.”
Jeremy Doku could have a field day against the Spaniard
Harry Redknapp makes a fair point and considering Pedro Porro has shown his flaws defensively since signing for Tottenham, Jeremy Doku could prove to be the X-factor for Manchester City by targeting him.
Especially during Ange Postecoglou’s reign, the Spaniard has been asked to play as an inverted right-back, which leads to acres of space left behind him when Spurs defend transitions.
Not only does Jeremy Doku have the ability to ghost past Pedro Porro but also the speed to run in behind him and punish Tottenham.
While the youngster did not contribute a goal or an assist against Liverpool, he did test Trent Alexander-Arnold on several instances, especially in one-versus-one situations.
If Doku manages to marry his incredible dribbling ability with end product, it could be game over for Porro and Tottenham.
