Ian Wright suggests Pep Guardiola could be causing a big problem for Man City behind the scenes

Manchester City have had a tough spell on the pitch recently.

Out of their four previous matches across all competitions, City have lost all four of them.

This started by the Blues being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Tottenham Hotspur before being handed their first Premier League defeat of the season against Bournemouth.

City then followed that up by blowing consecutive 1-0 leads against Sporting CP in the Champions League to lose 4-1 and then lose 2-1 to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League again.

With Pep Guardiola now having lost four games in a row for the first time in his managerial career, he admitted after the Brighton game that everyone at City needed the November international break.

In addition to these on-pitch concerns, a pundit and former top-flight star has suggested that a behind-the-scenes issue could have an impact on one particular solution City may be considering to help solve their current situation.

Ian Wright questions Pep Guardiola over potential Man City issue

A recent episode of Stick to Football saw Ian Wright and the rest of the panel discuss the current situations going on at City on and off the pitch.

Wright then went on to say this about how the speculation surrounding Guardiola’s future at the Manchester club could impact potential future transfer moves.

He said: “And the thing with Pep. How long is he staying for? If you are a top player now. With everything going on you are thinking let me just hang on a sec and see what is going on.”

Jermaine Pennant claimed City’s current players will also be concerned about Guardiola’s future

As things stand, the 53-year-old’s deal at the Etihad Stadium is set to expire in June.

During the October international break, Guardiola admitted he hadn’t made a decision about his future, keeping the speculation on the matter up in the ether.

Wright isn’t the only pundit to question the impact speculation surrounding the Catalan’s future could be having at the Manchester club, as Jermaine Pennant claimed City’s players will be concerned about Guardiola’s future, which may have played a part in their poor run of form.

While Guardiola said City may sign a midfielder in January to replace Rodri, the uncertainty around the manager’s future shouldn’t have an impact on potential signings.

In fact, City should be looking to sign players who want to play for the club rather than just sign because of who the manager is.
