“It was a mistake”… Chris Sutton thinks Manchester City did something very foolish in 2023

Chris Sutton has doubled down on his belief that Manchester City were wrong to sell Cole Palmer – despite the emergence of Oscar Bobb.

The 50-year-old made the comments when speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast.

So, what was said about Cole Palmer and Oscar Bobb? Let’s take a look…

What Chris Sutton said about Cole Palmer and Oscar Bobb

Well, the man from Nottingham claimed earlier this season that he thinks Manchester City were wrong to sell the 21-year-old to Chelsea in 2023.

Palmer has scored nine goals – while also providing four assists – in 17 Premier League appearances under Mauricio Pochettino.

A story from the Daily Star claimed that the presence of Bobb allowed Manchester City to feel comfortable in selling the England international to Chelsea.

After being told about that, Sutton said: “I am going to stick to my guns. I think it was a mistake letting Cole Palmer go on the evidence we have seen this season, but I am not going to argue with people who think Oscar Bobb is phenomenal.”

Fair enough.

As talented as Palmer is, Pep Guardiola sees his players on a daily basis, and clearly believes there is added value in giving Bobb more playing time than there was in keeping the Mancunian around.

Oscar Bobb can silence doubters at Manchester City

Sutton is not the only one who thinks Manchester City were wrong to sell Palmer – Anton Ferdinand is just one of many others who have questioned the move.

However, Bobb has already shown in his brief cameos so far this season that he can make everybody stop talking about the England international.

The Norway international took his goal against Newcastle in remarkable fashion, showing amazingly quick feet to sit Martin Dubravka down and steal all three points for Manchester City.

Bobb also has a UEFA Champions League goal to his name this season as well, with that strike in the 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade also finished off like a seasoned veteran.

At the age of just 20, the sky is the limit for this Norwegian wonderkid.
