Erling Haaland has proved himself to be a key player for Manchester City.
City paid Borussia Dortmund £51m to sign the striker back in the 2022 summer transfer window.
Since then, Haaland has gone on to make 108 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 101 goals along the way.
Despite his contract at the Etihad Stadium not set to expire until 2027, it was reported back in June that Barcelona see Haaland as a future transfer target.
Now though, a journalist has shared a fresh update on how the Spanish club view the City star and a potential future transfer move for him.

Journalist shares Haaland update amid Barcelona interest
Taking to his official X account, journalist Patrick Berger said this on the current situation surrounding Barcelona and their interest in Haaland.
He said: “Erling Haaland (24) remains the absolute dream transfer for Barca president Joan Laporta.
“However, a move of the Man City star to FC Barcelona is currently unrealistic for several reasons.
“Haaland is basically a big Spain fan, often vacations and trains in Marbella; secretly, the top striker also dreams of playing in La Liga at some point. But not yet.
“Real Madrid would have better chances than Barca in the future – as things stand. Haaland’s contract with City runs until 2027. The Skyblues would like to extend it. Talks are ongoing – outcome open.”
What has been said about City’s contract hopes for Haaland?
As Berger mentioned, it was reported back in September that City are close to agreeing a new and improved contract extension for Haaland.
Specifically, it was claimed that City have had several meetings with Haaland’s agent and there were positive signs that a contract extension could be sealed at some point.
Having already broken numerous records during his time at City, Haaland was backed by Darren Bent to break Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goals record if he spends a significant amount of time at the Manchester club.
Even though Berger said a move away from City for Haaland isn’t likely to happen soon, it may worry some supporters that the Norwegian is apparently eager to play in Spain at some point in his career.
Moving forward, while it would be great to see the 24-year-old pledge his future to the Blues by signing an extension, the best thing for all parties would be for him to focus on his football and keep firing City to more trophies.
