Having beaten both Arsenal and Liverpool to the Premier League title as Manchester City’s captain last season, Kyle Walker would have been hoping to do the same this campaign.
However, Gary Neville doubts Manchester City’s title credentials amongst others after they lost 2-0 to Arne Slot’s side on Sunday.
Kyle Walker would personally have been disappointed with his display, having let Cody Gakpo free before he opened the scoring for Liverpool and having gifted Luis Diaz possession to win a penalty for Mohamed Salah to dispatch.
Walker and Dias were arguing on the pitch as the pair seemed frustrated about how Gakpo was given all the space and time in the world to get on the scoresheet.
Jamie Carragher was critical of Walker for not having marked the Dutchman, a flaw that the Liverpool legend feels he has always had in his game.

Manchester City have lost four league games in a row as their form is going from bad to worse; which will especially be alarming senior players in the dressing room like the Englishman.

Kyle Walker’s message to Man City fans after Liverpool loss
Walker took to Instagram to request City fans to stick together and support the team as they are experiencing trying times.
The 34-year-old’s post read: “A message to our fans…”
“We know our recent performances haven’t been up to the standard we expect and we’re aware it’s been tough. But we’ve been through these challenges before, together, and we’ll come through this one as well. It’s important that we all stay together as one club, as Manchester City, through this tough spell. Your support, whether in the good times or the difficult moments means everything to us.”
Walker promised that Pep Guardiola’s men will continue to fight until the end no matter what.
“We’ve won titles in the final games of the season, and we’ve made history with a record-breaking 100-point campaign, right down to the last kick. We’ve shown time and time again that we can rise to the challenge, and we will do so again. I promise you, we’ll fight until the very end.”
Several Sky Blues players have assured the supporters that they will continue to strive for improvement, with Ruben Dias’ message to Manchester City fans also emerging after the contest.
Jeremy Doku promised Manchester City supporters that the team’s desire to rediscover their best selves will continue as well.
Micah Richards doubted Walker’s leadership
Micah Richards criticised Walker for his lax defending for Gakpo’s goal and questioned his leadership for being as unaware as he was just 12 minutes into the most important games of City’s season so far.

“Your captain is meant to be the leader on the pitch. [Walker] He was jogging back and this is what is costing Man City.”
“Individual mistakes that keep costing them. The fact he is ball watching constantly, we need him to be the leader on the pitch. Talk and organise.”
Manchester City fans will likely appreciate hearing from their skipper after yet another disappointing result for the club.
But ultimately, they will be hoping that Walker shows why he still merits being the club’s first-choice right-back.
Based on the evidence this season, the former Tottenham Hotspur defender is making far too many mistakes that could cost him a regular starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side.
