Manchester City have announced that Josko Gvardiol is their 2024/25 Player of the Season.
The Croatian star has been the Premier League giants’ most consistent performer throughout a tough 2024/25 campaign, whether that be at left-back or centre-back.
The 23-year-old lived up to the £78m transfer fee Man City paid RB Leipzig for the Croatia international during the summer of 2023, as Gvardiol featured in 53 matches for the Manchester club last season, and was the joint leading goalscorer amongst Premier League defenders with five.
When the nominees were announced for the award last month, Man City fans were in disagreement with each other, as many wanted to crown Kevin De Bruyne as their Player of the Season.
Now that a decision on the winner has been made, supporters of the Manchester club are all saying the same thing.
Man City fans agree with Josko Gvardiol winning the Player of the Year award
Following Man City’s win over Wolves in May, fans of the Manchester club were calling for Gvardiol to win their Player of the Season award as the Croatian star put in a top display against the Midlands side.
Supporters of the Premier League club have now got their wish, and everyone seems to be in agreement with the Croatian star being crowned.
One Man City fan wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Fully deserved. Amazing thing is he didn’t even play his natural position.”
A second Man City fan said about Gvardiol winning the award: “Gvardiol has been a Rolls-Royce for City this season. He has also been playing the entire season out of position, which makes it even more commendable.”
A third supporter of the Manchester club would add: “Wasn’t even close. The man was by far the highlight of the squad.”
Gvardiol joins an incredible list of players to win the award since Pep Guardiola arrived at Man City in 2016, but he still has some catching up to do to surpass De Bruyne.

Every Player of the Season winner under Pep Guardiola
There have been seven different winners of Man City’s Player of the Year award since Guardiola joined the club, with five different stars being crowned over the last five seasons.
De Bruyne has won the most with three, and the Belgian is joined on the list by David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and now, Gvardiol.
The Croatian star will be one of the favourites to win it again next season, as Gvardiol is expected to play at centre-back for the entire campaign now that Man City have signed Rayan Ait-Nouri.
It is fair to say the £78m City spent on the defender has been justified as the 23-year-old continues to develop into one of the best centre-backs in the world.
