The 2024/25 campaign has been a painful one at times for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City.
Having won four Premier League titles in a row last summer, City rested on their laurels by not revamping their squad last summer, and when Rodri picked up a serious knee injury, it left the remaining players struggling, which now has them fighting for a Champions League spot with two games to go.

Man City are currently on an unbeaten run of 10 games, and this is a result of Guardiola finding solutions, while several stars have stepped up, such as 20-year-old Nico O’Reilly.
Another is Josko Gvardiol, who has been at the top of his game for the majority of the campaign, and the Croatian has now been nominated for Man City’s Player of the Season, an award that has City fans divided.

Man City announce the three stars for their Player of the Season award
Following his recent performance against Wolves, Man City fans labelled Gvardiol as their Player of the Season, and it seems many agree, as the defender has been nominated in the final three for the 2025 award.
Jamie Carragher thinks Erling Haaland has been Man City’s best player this season, and the Norwegian is another nominee, alongside the departing Kevin De Bruyne.
No Man City player was nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Season award this season, which is the first time that has happened since the 2016/17 campaign.
Man City fans felt that the decision was the right one as the Manchester club have not been good enough, however, when it comes to crowning their own Player of the Season, they have been divided.
Man City fans are divided over Josko Gvardiol and Kevin De Bruyne
De Bruyne is set to bring his 10-year Man City career to an end this summer, and a big reason for this is that the Belgian star has not been able to produce the level of performance he has shown in the past consistently anymore.
The midfielder has not been at his best this season, yet he is still up for the Player of the Season award for sentimental reasons, which has fans divided, as many feel Gvardiol deserves the crown.
Writing on X (formerly known as Twitter), one Man City fan wrote: “Not selecting KDB would be heartless.”
A second fan would also show support for the Belgian, stating: “Honour KDB in his final season.”

Other supporters would not let their emotions taint their view of who really has been Man City’s Player of the Season, as many called for Gvardiol to win the award.
One Man City fan wrote: “Anything other than Gvadiol is wrong!”
While a second City supporter simply said: “Give it to Gvardiol.”
It remains to be seen who will win the award, but what is certain is that Man City fans are torn on who they want to be given the title.
