Vincent Kompany has been in Manchester this week as the Bayern Munich boss enjoys his summer break.
Similar to Man City, the Bundesliga champions’ pre-season plans have not been traditional as they also took part in the FIFA Club World Cup this summer, reaching the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern’s players have been enjoying a well-deserved rest ever since, and before returning for pre-season training, Kompany took a trip to Manchester this week.
It is unclear what the purpose of the Belgian’s visit to his former home was for, but the former Man City captain did something that had City fans talking.

Vincent Kompany spotted buying Man City shirts
Kompany is regarded as one of the best players in Premier League history, and having helped deliver four titles to Man City fans, supporters idolise their former captain.
The 39-year-old featured in 360 matches for the Manchester club across 11 years, scoring 20 goals and assisting a further 10, cementing himself as a club legend.
The Bayern Munich boss showed how much he still loves Man City this week, as Kompany was spotted in a Man City store by Matthew Kerr.
The former defender was believed to be buying the new City kit for his kids, who are now fans of the Manchester club for life, having watched their father represent the Premier League giants for years.
This trip to the club’s store had many fans talking, and they have all been saying the same thing about Kompany and his future at City.
Man City fans call for Vincent Kompany to replace Pep Guardiola
Pep Guardiola plans to take a break once he leaves Man City, and it remains to be seen if that will be in 2027.
It is unclear at present who the Manchester club are eyeing up as a potential replacement for the legendary coach, but Man City fans called for Kompany after he won the Bundesliga last season.
After displaying his love again for the Manchester club this week, fans have been calling for the Belgian to be their next manager, with one fan writing on X (formerly known as Twitter): “I desperately want him to take over from Pep once he leaves”
Another supporter of the Manchester club added: “A future City manager with infinite funding.”
While a final City fan said: “Obviously, he is our future manager.”
Only time will tell if the wish of Man City fans comes true, but if the 39-year-old continues winning at Bayern Munich, he could likely return to the Etihad Stadium one day.
