Manchester City fans have swarmed to social media to react to some fresh comments made by a key player at the club.
On the pitch, City have failed to win any of their six previous games in all competitions, losing five and drawing one.
Their next match sees City take on Liverpool at Anfield for their first Premier League meeting of the 2024/25 campaign.
Ahead of this big clash, a big name in the squad shared a message to the City supporters.
In December’s issue of the official Man City magazine, Ruben Dias shared a rallying cry to the Manchester club’s supporters, telling then to “block out the noise” from external sources about the team’s recent run of form.
Dias also highlighted how City will be able to get back to a more positive state if the fans and players stick together and push forward collectively.
This then led to various City fans on X sharing their reactions to what the defender had to say, with some suggesting a change of captaincy is to be in order.

Man City fans react to latest Ruben Dias comments ahead of Liverpool clash
One user wrote: “The sooner Dias is captain the better.”
Another shared a post along the same lines saying: “He should be captain. It’s a joke that it’s Kyle Walker.”
This supporter claimed that Dias “speaks like a true leader,” with another one demanding that City “make this guy our captain effective immediately PLEASE.”
Another X user said: “THIS is our captain, a true leader” with another questioning “why is this guy not our captain.”
Dias is a key player for City
Signed from Benfica in the 2020 summer transfer window, the £180k-a-week defender has gone on to make 192 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, winning nine trophies along the way.
As things stand, Walker is City’s captain, although Dias is part of the leadership group in the squad alongside Kevin De Bruyne, Rodri, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva.
Back in August, Oscar Bobb named Dias the best trainer at City because he “never switches off” on the pitch.
Following that, John Stones picked Dias to become a manager in the future out of anyone in the current City squad.
While a change in captaincy won’t likely happen in the middle of the season, it’ll be interesting to see if Dias ever does get voted to take the armband on a permanent basis at any point in the future.
