Man City genuinely still believe £50m player could sign for them before the transfer window closes

After sealing the signing of James Trafford, Manchester City still have a month left to further bolster their squad.

Manchester City have told Stefan Ortega to leave as well and perhaps others could follow in the German’s footsteps while fresh faces like Trafford walk through the door.

Last summer, Pep Guardiola and Co chose not to rebuild City’s squad by only signing Savinho and Ilkay Gundogan.

However, it seems like Manchester City have learned from their grave error last year, making six signings this summer.

Man City think they can still sign Newcastle star Tino Livramento

Despite looking like a threat ahead of next season, it goes without saying that if the Sky Blues got their hands on a right-back like Tino Livramento, they would reach the next level.

Newcastle United intend to extend Livramento’s contract as they are aware of City’s longstanding interest in his signature.

While Newcastle refuse to sell Livramento, journalist Dean Jones claimed on the Transfers from Paradise podcast via Patreon that Manchester City still believe they could sign him, revealing: “They haven’t made a bid for Livramento, but they’re definitely persisting with their interest behind-the-scenes. They won’t make a bid unless they know it will be successful or open a conversation that leads to success. They know that Newcastle don’t want to sell the player, so their first job is to turn the player’s head and then make sure they have the figures to get him out of there.”

“Newcastle are adamant that it’s not going to happen, but Man City still think it might. If Livramento sees [Alexander] Isak go he’s thinking, ‘what am I building towards here?’ From a Newcastle perspective, they’ve had Livramento in the bank as the Kieran Trippier heir but he won’t become that if he leaves.”

How highly Manchester City rate Tino Livramento behind the scenes

Manchester City’s stance on signing Livramento is that they are ready to pay a fee in excess of £50 million to secure his services.

The Englishman is one of the best full-backs in the Premier League and at 22, he could go on to become a superstar under Pep Guardiola if he signed for City. Last season, the highly-rated technician was one of Newcastle’s best players as well, standing out at both right-back and left-back.

Manchester City view Livramento as Kyle Walker’s heir, who is arguably the best right-back to have ever played in the English top-flight. As a result, it comes as no surprise that City seem unwilling to wave the white flag in their quest to sign the former Chelsea defender.
