The 2025 summer transfer window has got off to a busy start for Manchester City.

Coming into the window, Pep Guardiola was keen to add four to five new faces to his City squad and ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, the Spanish coach has already reached that mark with Tijjani Reijnders, Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcus Bettinelli all part of the squad in the United States.

In addition to this, Man City are close to signing Sverre Nypan from Rosenborg, but the Manchester club do not plan on stopping there, while outgoings will also need to be considered.

One City star looked certain to leave the Premier League giants this summer permanently; however, it now seems that loan moves will be considered.

Man City open to sending Kyle Walker on loan again

After eight years at the Etihad Stadium, Kyle Walker is expected to leave Man City permanently this summer as the right-back is not part of Guardiola’s plans.

The Man City legend spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at AC Milan; however, the full-back has returned to Manchester after the Italian club opted not to make that deal permanent.

According to The Guardian, the Manchester club are now open to sending Walker out on loan again ahead of the 2025/26 season should they fail to find a buyer, as the veteran star has just one year left on his current City deal.

This may be a result of the lack of interest from clubs in the defender, with Fenerbahce the only team currently keen on signing Walker.

Guardiola loves Walker, which he showed last season by stating about the right-back ahead of their opening game in the Champions League via TNT Sports: “I would say first of all [as] a footballer, [he] has a genetic [quality that] is incomparable, physicalities, something unique.”

However, the 35-year-old is no longer able to compete in the Premier League, hence why Man City are in the market for a new right-back.

Fabrizio Romano thinks Man City will try and sign a right-back next, as addressing this area of the pitch was high on their list of priorities heading into the summer.

It was recently reported that Hugo Viana is struggling to find City a new right-back as Newcastle don’t plan to sell Tino Livramento, while a move is yet to be made for Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso, who are two top targets for Guardiola.

Last month, it was reported that Man City were keen on Flamengo’s Wesley, but nothing has materialised from that interest either, as it has become clear that the Manchester club have some doubts.

Fans of the Manchester club shouldn’t panic as there is still plenty of time for Viana to bring a new full-back to the Etihad before the new Premier League season gets underway in August.

City may convince Newcastle to part ways with Livramento, and if not, a new opportunity may present itself before the window shuts.
