Man City ‘in a hurry’ to bid £51m for goalkeeper apart from James Trafford, Bernardo Silva knows him very well

Once the 2025/2026 season begins, it looks increasingly likely that there will be a fresh face in between the sticks for Manchester City.

Galatasaray have agreed to sign Ederson and it looks like a matter of time before the Brazilian goalkeeper jets off to Turkey.

James Trafford is keen to join Manchester City despite Newcastle United’s longstanding interest in signing him.

City’s pursuit of Trafford is a sensible one, considering he joined the Sky Blues at 12 years of age and understands Pep Guardiola’s system to a tee.

Man City could launch £51m bid to sign Porto star Diogo Costa

However, aside from the Burnley number one, Diogo Costa has also been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

So much so that it emerged that Manchester City agreed a deal to sign Costa.

The Porto goalkeeper has two years left on his contract and according to Mais Futebol, City are “in a hurry” to sign him, considering Paris Saint-Germain could also dip into the transfer market as Gianluigi Donnarumma could leave this summer.

Behind the scenes, Manchester City have made an enquiry to sign Costa while working on the prospect of bidding €60 million (£51.9 million) to secure his services, despite the highly-rated shotstopper having a €75 million release clause (£64.9 million) in his contract.

The Sky Blues would like the add-ons to be included in the fee about the Portuguese international, who they have admired for a while.

Manchester City have rated Costa highly for ages and with his countryman Hugo Viana becoming their sporting director, their interest has unsurprisingly remained sky-high in his signature.

Bernardo Silva’s record alongside Diogo Costa for Portugal

Bernardo Silva would have a good idea of what the 25-year-old is like as a player and a character, having played with him for years for Portugal.

The pair have played 32 times in tandem for their national team.

Bernardo and Costa have won 24, drawn two and lost six out of the 32 games.

If Manchester City end up signing Costa, the Sky Blues midfielder will be hoping that they will have a near-perfect record with him in goal.

It would be a surprise if City were to sign both the UEFA Nations League winner and Trafford.
