Manchester City might do something the Citizens have never done before in FA Cup history on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola begins his defence of the FA Cup when Darren Moore brings his Huddersfield side to the Etihad Stadium.

So, what will Manchester City do? Let’s take a look…

Manchester City set for a 1st in the FA Cup

Well, this Sunday should signal the first time Manchester City play in the FA Cup while proudly wearing the FIFA Champions Badge – awarded to the Citizens after the FIFA Club World Cup win in Saudi Arabia.

A story from Football London – published after Chelsea won the FIFA Club World Cup in 2021 – claimed that written permission would be required for the FIFA Champions Badge to be worn in the FA Cup.

However, Liverpool were allowed to wear the FIFA Champions Badge in the FA Cup after winning the FIFA Club World Cup in the 2019/20 campaign, so there is no reason why Manchester City will be denied permission.

There were initially doubts about Manchester City being allowed to wear the FIFA Champions Badge in Premier League action – after Liverpool and Chelsea were both blocked from doing so in recent years.

However, the Premier League made the surprise decision to allow Manchester City to wear the iconic gold emblem for the remainder of the 2023/24 campaign, so any problems over wearing it against Huddersfield would come as a real shock.

Manchester City will not wear FA Cup patch

Manchester City would have been able to show off even more against the Terriers with a silver FA Cup sleeve badge – awarded to the holders of the competition.

However, Manchester City will not wear the sleeve patch as it includes the word “Emirates” – the rivals of Manchester City’s primary sponsors Etihad.

That is according to the Daily Star.

Nevertheless, it should still be a special sight to see Manchester City wear the FIFA Champions Badge in FA Cup action for the first time ever this Sunday.
