Manchester City have made a number of smart moves with Txiki Begiristain in his role as Director of Football – but few have been as shrewd as the signing of Julian Alvarez.
The Argentina international cost Manchester City just £14.1m in a deal from River Plate back in January 2022.
Remarkably, the South American has already won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup since moving to the Etihad Stadium – while also lifting the World Cup and the Copa America on the international scene.
Now – after new data emerged – Manchester City are well positioned to make a humungous profit on Julian Alvarez if he was to be sold…
Julian Alvarez valuation hits new heights
Well, this just goes to show how incredible the £14.1m agreement actually was.
Alvarez is now being valued at €164.7m (£142.1m) by the CIES Football Observatory.
That is – remarkably – £128.1m more than Manchester City initially spent on the Argentine, showing just how special it was to secure his signature for only £14.1m in 2022.

In our view, it could even go down as the greatest bargain in recent times.
Alvarez has not just sat on the bench and collected these aforementioned medals either – not by any means.
The 23-year-old scored hugely significant goals for Manchester City last season as a historic treble was secured, popping up with three strikes in the FA Cup, several important efforts in the Premier League while also netting in the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid.
Alvarez also scored twice for Argentina in the 3-0 World Cup semi-final win over Croatia, having previously scored the winner in the 2-1 Round of 16 victory over Australia.
Julian Alvarez has admirers after stunning efforts at Manchester City
Unsurprisingly, some of Europe’s elite clubs are looking at Alvarez after he rose to stardom in Manchester.
A story from SPORT in Spain claimed that Barcelona would love to sign the Calchín-born forward.

Elsewhere – according to Bernabeu Digital – Real Madrid are keen to buy Alvarez.
If these reports are accurate, then Manchester City win regardless of what happens – Guardiola will either keep one of Europe’s best forwards, or secure himself a giant fee to reinvest on a replacement.
Begiristain, take a bow.
