Manchester City have every reason to be worried about the business Liverpool have already done this summer off the back of winning the Premier League.
Liverpool are set to sign Hugo Ekitike after having already brought in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez in what is turning out to be a summer transfer window for the ages for the Reds.
While Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Rayan Ait-Nouri in particular look like excellent additions to Manchester City’s squad, the Sky Blues are in the process of a squad rebuild unlike Arne Slot’s side.
Slot still rates Manchester City highly but in his heart of hearts, the Dutchman would have every right to be confident about retaining the title next season.
Pep Guardiola should be worried if Liverpool sign Rodrygo
Liverpool are interested in signing Rodrygo Goes as well, who could further boost their chances of defending their league crown.
Journalist Eduardo Burgos has told The Redmen TV that Rodrygo Goes is open to signing for Liverpool, revealing: “Rodrygo is happy with the interest, he’s open to a move, he always liked the Premier League.”
If the Real Madrid winger makes a move to Anfield, Pep Guardiola should especially be worried as he has a terrific record against City — registering four goals and two assists in nine appearances against his side.
Rodrygo famously haunted Manchester City in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals, coming off the bench to score a brace and miraculously led Los Blancos to an eventual 3-1 win.
Guardiola was interested in signing Rodrygo and he will be aware of how much the Brazilian could elevate Liverpool, as he could be an instant upgrade on both Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo on the left-wing — having cemented his status as one of the best wide players in the world for years.

The prospect of the 24-year-old lining up alongside Mohamed Salah, Wirtz and Ekitike should worry the Catalan as while City’s potential front four of Cherki, Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden is exciting, Liverpool’s looks even more dangerous and is a facet that could swing the title race in their favour.
Whether Manchester City still want to sign Rodrygo
Rodrygo could leave Real Madrid for £86.5 million and in theory, several clubs could still have a chance of signing him.
After all, Real Madrid are willing to sell Rodrygo and it is no secret that he is a special player.
However, Manchester City are not keen on Rodrygo’s signature, which also gives Liverpool the advantage of bringing in one of the best wingers in the world to haunt Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta’s sides.
Perhaps the Sky Blues’ rationale may be that they have two left-sided forwards on their books already in Omar Marmoush and Jeremy Doku.
If Rodrygo does become a Liverpool player, only time will tell whether City regret their reported decision not to sign him.
