Manchester City decided to let Jeremie Frimpong move to Celtic back in September 2019 after nine years at the Etihad Stadium.

The Dutchman joined the City Football Academy in 2010, making a number of appearances in the youth ranks before deciding to take the plunge in senior football with Celtic.

Now – having since moved to Bayer LeverkusenJeremie Frimpong is showing exactly why he was at Manchester City in the first place…

Frimpong eventually left Celtic for Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021 in a deal worth £11m – after winning three pieces of silverware in Glasgow.

Now – under Xabi Alonso in Germany – the defender Manchester City sold for just £350,000 is among the best talents on the planet.

Frimpong has scored seven goals – while also providing nine assists – in just 21 appearances this season under the Spaniard.

Amazingly, all of the Netherlands international’s goal involvements have come from right-back.

The 23-year-old has displayed a quite remarkable level of attacking capability for a natural defender, something he surely picked up in the City Football Academy, where other gems such as Phil Foden and Cole Palmer have been produced.

Frimpong made 41 appearances for the Manchester City Under-18 side, along with six outings for the Under-19s and 21 appearances for the Under-21 side.

In all of those games, the Amsterdam-born wonderkid could only muster three goals and seven assists, so his output has reached an outstanding level under Alonso.

Pep Guardiola could do with a player like Jeremie Frimpong

Those at the Etihad Stadium are always planning ahead to replace key players, such as Vincent Kompany, Sergio Aguero and David Silva.

Now – according to the Independent – Txiki Begiristain and his team are looking at long term replacements for Kyle Walker, who is 33 years of age.

Reece James is said to be the No.1 target, although if Frimpong maintains this stunning level of performance, he would surely be an asset to Guardiola back at Manchester City.

Hopefully, the Dutchman can keep shining in Germany – where Manchester City are already looking at talents such as Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies, along with Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz.
