Pundit believes Man City could be about to receive a ‘massive blow’ ahead of the new Premier League season

A lot has happened at Manchester City over the last few months.

The 24/25 season was a very underwhelming one for the Premier League giants, and in order to not experience this again, Pep Guardiola has made changes to his coaching staff, in addition to bringing in five new faces to his squad.

Another reason for this was the long-term injury Rodri suffered at the start of the last campaign, and the Spaniard’s return in May has everyone at the Etihad Stadium excited for the upcoming campaign.

One thing Man City fans would not have expected this summer was questions over the midfielder’s future, which is what is currently happening.

Rodri exit would be a big setback for Man City

It was reported this week that Man City want to offer Rodri a new contract as soon as possible, as the Premier League club is keen to fend off any interest Real Madrid may have in the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner.

Not long after, it was reported that Real Madrid are willing to pay £100m to sign Rodri, and if the La Liga club are successful in their pursuit, Dean Saunders thinks it would be a disaster for the Manchester club.

“I think he would improve Real Madrid,” the pundit said on talkSPORT about the potential transfer. “A massive blow for Man City if he leaves. But for Real Madrid, I think he’ll make a difference to them, he’s that good a player.”

Rodri has been crucial for Guardiola over the last few seasons, and last year was evidence of how much of an impact being without the Spaniard can have on Man City.

£100m is a lot of money for the Manchester club to think about, should that bid arrive, and the 29-year-old wouldn’t be the first player to play for both European giants.

Players to play for both Man City and Real Madrid

Man City and Real Madrid have been big rivals over recent years as the two clubs have crossed paths on multiple occasions in the Champions League.

A total of nine players have played for both teams, with Robinho being the biggest name within this group, having featured 137 times for Los Blancos and only 53 for City.

The remaining eight are Nicolas Anelka, Emmanuel Adebayor, Steve McManaman, Javi Garcia, Alvaro Negredo, Jose Angel Pozo, Danilo, and Brahim Diaz.

Man City fans will be hoping Rodri does not become the 10th, with a big worry for supporters of the Manchester club being that the La Liga side normally get their way.
