Recently, Jamie Carragher claimed that if Liverpool had the 32-year-old in their ranks, they would win the Premier League this season.

Paul Merson believes that the Belgian skipper is quite similar to Dennis Bergkamp due to his ability to spot passes other players fail to see.

“That’s why he’s one of the best midfielders, in my eyes to touch the Premier League. I think if you see his assist stats are way up there with some of the greatest. I think there’s only a few above him, he might be third or fourth in it [the Premier League’s all-time top assisters list]”, he said on City’s official post-match show (via YouTube) on Saturday.

“And the way he’s playing, especially so far, he’s going to be creeping up that table a lot quicker than people think.”

Recently, Nedum Onuoha also claimed that the former VFL Wolfsburg technician is in the conversation for being the greatest midfielder English football has ever seen with Steven Gerrard, Patrick Vieira, Frank Lampard, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.

At the start of the year, Tony Cascarino stated that the treble-winner is one of the three greatest players to have played in the English top-flight.

Game by game, Kevin De Bruyne is proving Shaun Wright-Phillips right by further cementing his status as a Premier League great.

Despite the emergence of Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and Rodri as game-changers, Kevin De Bruyne remains the man who provides winning solutions for Manchester City repeatedly, as his introduction coincided with the hosts’ upturn in performance against Everton.

The same could be said for the likes of Steven Gerrard at Liverpool, Frank Lampard at Chelsea and Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal as they gave their sides a massive lift; which is the mark of an elite attacking midfielder.
