The subject of Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City has been a big talking point over the past few months.

After seeing his side secure a fourth consecutive Premier League title, Guardiola said that he would love to extend his contract at City.

More recently however, Guardiola admitted that he has not yet made a decision about his future at City, with his contract at the Etihad Stadium set to expire in June.

Now that the latest international break is over, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding Guardiola’s mindset on the subject of what his next step could be.

Guardiola constantly changes his mind about City future

A recent report from The Athletic said this on the matter.

It said: “People in the industry, including some who know him well, have noted that Guardiola changes his mind almost every day about what he wants to do next summer.”

Guardiola gave a recent update about his future

In a recent press conference ahead of City’s Premier League match against Wolves, Guardiola gave this response when asked about his future and if he has ambitions to manage a national team.

He said: “Yes. I have to decide. I have not taken a decision, when I do I will inform you. There is no news, I have nothing to add. My concern only is for Wolves.”

Prior to that, it was reported that City could offer Guardiola a rolling contract where he’d be able to extend his deal a year at a time.

Having been at the Manchester club since 2016, the 53-year-old has been City’s manager for longer than he was in charge of Barcelona and Bayern Munich combined.

During his time with the Citizens, Guardiola has seen his side win 357 of the 483 matches he’s overlooked in total, drawing 60 and losing 66.

This has seen the Blues get their hands on multiple trophies including six Premier League titles and their first Champions League.

Now that it’s been claimed that Guardiola has been changing his mind on an almost daily basis about whether to stay at City beyond this season or not, this won’t do much to quell any concerns some supporters may have about the Catalan potentially leaving in the summer.

From the fans’ point of view, the best scenario would be for Guardiola to put pen to paper on an extension as soon as possible.

This would put to bed any speculation about his future and allow everyone at City to focus on their objectives on the pitch.
