The 2025/26 campaign is set to be a big one for the career of Rodri.
Having been crowned the winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or, the Man City star never got the chance to follow up that campaign after the serious knee injury Rodri suffered at the start of last season ruled him out for the majority of the term.
The Spaniard will be keen to remind everyone in the Premier League over the next 12 months just how good he is, but that recently looked under threat.
It was reported that Real Madrid were optimistic that they could get a deal done for Rodri, and that Man City are keen to offer the midfielder a new contract soon to fend off the La Liga giants.
The hierarchy in Madrid have now made a final decision on Rodri for this summer, and it is an outcome Pep Guardiola will be pleased with.

Real Madrid will not sign Rodri this summer
After suffering an injury at the FIFA Club World Cup, Rodri returned to Man City training on Monday with the rest of Guardiola’s squad, as preparations for the 25/26 campaign get underway.
The Spaniard’s full focus will be on getting back to the levels he showed during the 23/24 campaign for City, which has now been made easier as Real Madrid do not plan on making a move for the 29-year-old over the coming weeks, The Athletic reports.
“Reports in English and Spanish outlets have suggested there could be a bid for Manchester City’s Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder Rodri, but the club are not considering a move this summer,” Mario Cortegana wrote.
“He has just recovered from a serious knee injury, while his age (29) and contract with City until 2027 mean the board is not actively working on a deal for him.”
This suggests a move may come further down the line, and with Real Madrid also having an interest in Erling Haaland, future summer transfer windows may be a worry for the Manchester club.
Man City need to hand out several new contracts
Based on this report, Real Madrid will certainly make a move for Rodri if he becomes a free agent in 2027, and the La Liga club may even try their luck next summer, if the Spaniard has not extended his current contract at Man City.
Once the current transfer window shuts, a new deal for Rodri needs to be worked on, as the midfielder still has many years at the highest level, although some may argue that it could be best to wait and see how he responds to his recent ACL injury over the next 12 months.
In addition to the Spain international, Phil Foden’s contract situation is another that Man City need to keep on top of as his current deal expires in 2027.
Man City are already in talks with Ruben Dias over a new deal, but fans of the Manchester club may feel that the other two stars should be prioritised, as the Portuguese defender has shown signs of decline over recent months.
