Manchester City have been conducting business on many fronts this summer.

Sverre Nypan was added to Pep Guardiola’s squad last week, which took the number of new faces at the Etihad Stadium to five, but the Premier League giants do not plan on stopping there.

The Manchester club have also seen changes off the pitch, with Kolo Toure recently becoming a part of Guardiola’s coaching staff, with the former City defender following the arrivals of Pepijn Lijnders and James French.

Man City have also been recruiting heavily for their academy, while new contracts are also being worked on for key players whose expiry dates are getting closer, and fans of the club have loved the latest news on one star who could be about to get an upgraded deal.

Man City fans delighted as club works on new Rodri contract

Rodri has been on Real Madrid’s radar for some time now, and the La Liga giants were recently linked to the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner once again, as they look to pounce on his expiring contract at Man City, which comes to an end in 2027.

Reports out of Spain on Wednesday have stated that Man City are working on a new deal for Rodri and that the Premier League giants hope to get it sorted as soon as possible.

Man City fans have been reacting to this news with delight, with one supporter writing on X (formerly known as Twitter) about the £63m star: “A lifetime contract … he has to retire here man.”

Another fan of the Manchester club wrote: “Give him that contract ASAP and a release clause of €500m.”

A final City supporter added about Rodri: “Awesome news for Man City fans! Looks like they’re rushing to lock down Rodri with a new contract. With Real Madrid sniffing around, this move makes total sense to keep our midfield maestro!”

Other contracts Man City are working on

In addition to Rodri, Man City are working on new deals for other stars, with Ruben Dias in talks with the Premier League club to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, as the Portuguese star is currently set to leave in 2027.

Although he has a contract until 2028, Man City have also started contract talks with Rico Lewis, as the youngster is viewed as a key part of Guardiola’s plans going forward, and everyone at the club hopes he can take another step forward in his development over the next 12 months.

Several big names will see their deals run out in 2026, such as John Stones, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan, and Ederson, but unlike the three stars above, new contracts are not expected to be handed to this group.
